The world lies in our hands.
We are responsible.
No one else.
Every single individual can be the starting point of a new future. Anytime.

How we become capable of social reorganization in our lives, our actions, in culture, politics, economics and other fields of life – this is what concerns the section for social sciences at the Goetheanum.

The section sees its task in researching the conditions and principles through which one can act in social life appropriately and with humanity. We want to train and help develop skills and institutions which lead to living conditions in Society that are commensurate with human dignity.

Threefold Social Organism

As human beings we have three capacities: thinking, feeling and acting. Each of those capacities have a correspondence with the different spheres of the society and are based on a universal value: the freed thinking for the cultural life, the feeling of equality for the other in the legal sphere and the value of solidarity in the economic life. The autonomy of each sphere and the striving for each appropriate principle would open the possibility for a healthy, productive and peaceful society.

Cultural Life

This is the sphere of freedom, where each individual capacity can be unfold to enrich and develop the society as a whole. It is the field of education, art, science and religion.

Legal-Political Life

The human rights are independent from the economic power and they do not distinguish among people, the core principle is equality. In this field we have the relationship between human beings as equals.

Economic Life

The economic life is the transformation of the nature into commodities that meet human needs. The principle that rules this sphere is solidarity: the needs of the other are cover by my work, as my needs are covered by the work of the others.

This war must end. Now!

War – ongoing and getting worse. Bombs no longer hit strategic targets, as in the beginning: for some time now houses have been attacked, theatres, schools and hospitals. Mariupol, a once thriving, vibrant city, lies largely in ruins. Millions of people are fleeing, families are torn apart, children alone, parents seeking shelter in bunkers or subway stations. Fear everywhere.

We need to talk and think about how it could come to this war. How will we get out of it? A look at Ukraine, Russia, the West and Europe.

Die neue Verantwortung – Abschied von der Freiheit?

Ein Vortrag von Gerald Häfner im Rahmen der Reihe «Verantwortung der Freiheit» Freiheit ist ein hohes Gut. Aber können wir sie uns noch leisten? Arten sterben aus, wir Menschen gefährden Klima, Erde, Leben. Was fehlt, ist Verantwortung!

Projects

The World Goetheanum Association is a worldwide forum oriented towards the future development of people and the earth. It brings together partners from all fields of life, such as agriculture, education, medicine, art, trade and banking. Partners can be companies, institutions and self-employed persons.

How do we meet the pressing social challenges of the 21st century? In 1919, after the First World War, a popular movement for the „threefold division of the social organism“ started in Stuttgart. It was inspired by Rudolf Steiner and advocated a comprehensive social reorganization based on the self-determination of responsible people in all areas of society.

The World Social Initiative Forum (WSIF) is a non-profit initiative hosted by the Section for Social Sciences at the Goetheanum. The WSIF connects initiatives and individuals addressing key social issues of our time manifesting in communities around the world.

Goetheanum

The School of Spiritual Science is responsible for research in the spiritual field, for stimulating and dealing with practical questions and for continuing education in anthroposophically oriented fields of work. Today the university is divided into one general anthroposophical section and ten specialist sections. The work is based on the course in the humanities held by Rudolf Steiner in 1924 for the members of the university as part of their first class. The university has its headquarters and coordination centre at the Goetheanum and its work takes place worldwide in the contexts in which members of the university are active.
